Milnerton Medi Clinic

"Committed to Quality Care"

The Community Intervention Centre Management and volunteers would like to thank Milnerton Medi Clinic, Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital, the South African Police Services and all our other numerous sponsors for their commitment to this project, which has proven to be so necessary in this area. Special thanks also to our clients who have so bravely faced their own personal trauma and have allowed themselves to heal.

CORE VALUES:

To practice the concept of compassion reflected as "love your neighbour" to all in need.

To emancipate, empower and nurture wholeness in all people and their families within our community.

To have professional, mature, ethical and trusting relationships.

To provide and build an enthusiastic and helpful service team with sound knowledge and advice.
The Centre will be run as a service to the community on a non-profit basis.

WHO ARE WE ?

CIC is a non-profit Organisation registered with the Department of Welfare. We are governed by an Executive Committee and a Board of Patrons. They offer their time and expertise in their particular field to CIC as volunteers and are elected by the community. We work in full co-operation with the South African Police service and Milnerton Medi-Clinic and Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We provide a free 24-hour trauma or crisis intervention service within the area covered by the Tableview, Milnerton and Melkbos SAPS. This includes Milnerton, part of Brooklyn, Summer Greens, Joe Slovo, Montague Gardens, Killarney Gardens, Milnerton Ridge, Sunset Beach, Dunoon, Doornbach, Tableview, Bloubergstrand, Westbeach, Parklands, Bloubergrant & Melkbos.

All the trauma workers are trained volunteers from within the community who provide their time and assistance free of charge, often at a cost to themselves. We deal with rape, murder, suicide, attempted suicide, family crisis, child abuse & neglect, accident trauma, HIV & aids issues, domestic violence, armed robberies, violent crimes, substance abuse, grief support and any other critical incidents.

HOW DOES THAT WORK?

When someone experiences a critical incident they are called out by a service provider like the South African Police Service, Fire & Rescue, Milnerton Medi Clinic and Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital or other professionals to assist with the trauma management. This may be on-site, at a trauma room or at Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital or at Milnerton Medi-Clinic.

THE TRAUMA WORKER WILL HELP YOU IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:

Provide support throughout the immediate traumatic event
Help with facilitating the process on-site and explaining procedures
Assist with any immediate actions that need to be taken
Evaluate client safety & activate support systems
Refer you to whatever resources are available for further support
Where necessary see the client for follow up

Their main task is always to empower you to cope with the crisis at hand and not to take away your own coping strengths by doing everything for you.

Should you call CIC directly you will either be referred to the correct service provider to deal with the immediate emergency; be given telephonic advice; or be referred to an Organisation or professional who can assist you. We do not go on-site to a crisis unless we are accompanied by a medical or law enforcement agency.
