Aäron Tomsana, from Khayelitsha, is a full time potter
specializing in hand built earthenware vessels and slip-casted
stoneware/functional ware.
Aäron matriculated in 1990 in Dimbaza in the Ciskei, where
after he came to Cape Town to participate in the Cape Community
Projects to lean the skills of Painting, Drawing and Printmaking.
In 1996 he completed his N6 Certificate, an 18 month post-matric
course in Ceramics, at the Cape College under the guidance of
Maret Cronje.
Since then Aäron has been actively involved in the production
and selling of his own pottery ware. Currently he produces during
the week from his studio at the Maret Cronje Art Centre, in
Table View, and weekends he mans his stall at the Green Market
Square in Longmarket Street, Cape Town.
Aäron's unique approach and application of ethnic ornamentation
and motifs to the decoration of ceramic ware, captures the essence
of African tradition, combined with the sophistication of Western
art. His wares are therefore very in demand with the overseas
customers, resulting in regular orders from other countries.
Aäron undertakes commission work.
