Jenny Merritt was born in Stellenbosch and obtained a Fine Art Degree in 1962 at the University of Cape Town.

After her studies, Jenny was guided and encouraged by her mentor, Robert Broadley, the well known portrait artist who was instrumental in furthering her early career. She currently lectures privately from an artist's school in Table View where she conducts workshops including painting for the soul, painting for pleasure, amongst other inspiring topics. Her works are exhibited in most of the well know Galleries in Cape Town, and she has received numerous awards from various National Art Societies.

Jenny's work consists of abstracts, portraits, landscapes, seascapes, caricatures, horse and animal studies (formal and impressionistic). She works in most media e.g. oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolours and mixed media.
